To describe the ultrasonographic findings in patients treated with monsels solution for placental acretism. We reported the first series of cases successfully managed with monsels solution for placental acretism with a success rate 92.8% (annual meeting of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (acog) 2008). In the period of January 2001—January 2009 we retrospectively analyzed the ultrasonographic findings in a group of 22 patients treated with monsels solution. Followed up by transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound practiced in post partum 10–30 days and a second assessment with in 6–12 months of treatment. In all of the patients included (100%), a lineal hyperecogenic image was observed within the endometrial cavity during the 10 days post-partum in 90.9% (20/22 cases) this image disappeared after 1 month post-partum. this finding was present 6–12 months after in only 4.5% (1/22 cases). None of our patients developed signs of infection. On follow up none of the patients treated referred infertility problems due to monsels solution. 7 out of 22 patients were pregnant within one year; including the patient with persistent hyperecogenic endometric lining. Ultrasonographic post partum evidence of the use of monsels solution can be visualized in all patients within the first post partum month. The ecogenic lining persistence could only be demonstrated in one patient (4.5%) after 6 months of treatment. However the presence of this finding could not be associated with post partum complications or infertility long term complications.
