Cardiac transplantation as an alternative treatment is an essential possibility for patients with cardiac failure. In 1905, a new age started for researchers through the heterotopic procedure, described by doctors Carrel and Guthrie. In 1960, Lower and Shumway made the first orthotopic transplant, but it was not until 1966 in South Africa when Christian Barnard succeeded.1,2 The classic technique described by Lower has been abandoned by many groups,3 and the Bicaval Procedure according to Dreyfus4 is nowadays the most common method to prevent the subsequent atrial enlargement, tricuspid insufficiency, and atrial dysfunction.5–7
