In this article, we analyze the social meaning of the “blue” dollar in Argentina, based on the characterization of the network of social relations in which it is (illegally) exchanged and on the moral meaning it represents. We consider that in late modern societies money should be seen in light of its semantic plurality. Through an ethnographic analysis of the illegal dollar market, we explore the relations between monetary practices, cultural meanings, and social relations.
