Abstract The essential oil from the leaves of Acnistus arborescens (L) Schlecht growing around Merida, Venezuela, was isolated by hydrodistillation. This plant is distributed all over the American continent and it is used in folk medicine in the treatment of cancer. The chemical composition of the leaf oil was determined by GC-FID and GC-MS. The most abundant components were (Z)-hex-2-enal (40.7%) and estragol (25.6%). Key Words: Acnistus arborescensessential oil composition(Z)-hex-2-enalestragol
