In the nineteenth century BOSCA (1881 : 102) cited Alytes obstetricans var. boscai (the species which would be the most similar to B. muletensis, according to SANCHÍZ and ADROVER, 1979) on Mallorca, on the basis of several tadpoles from the Island.
