Answer: Pseudothrombocytosis secondary to Chagas parasitemia. Manual counting of platelets in the blood smear of the patient revealed a normal number of platelets, 210 × 109 platelets/liter; however, this examination also confirmed the presence of trypomastigotes forms of Trypanosoma cruzi.
