Abstract The distribution and abundance of the species in the families Acaridae and Glycyphagidae, and the families of Cryptostigmata recovered from house dust samples in Colombia, South America, is presented. The results from samples taken at 57 different localities throughout the country yielded 7 species of acarids from one third, 6 species of glycyphagids from twothirds, and over 12 families in the suborder Crypto - stigmata from one half of the sites. Negative locations for each group may not indicate the absence of the family or order in the ecosystem, but rather an expression of the relative abundance of the taxon.
