Abstract:

Nowadays, laser drilling is increasing its relevance among the industrial applications, especially in the aeronautical sector for the manufacture of small holes in the blades of a turbine for their internal cooling. There are more applications in other sectors like automotive or energy, where high aspect ratio drills are demanded. Currently there are robust industrial solutions to perform these type of drills, but these system are specific for this application and present high costs. On the other hand, conventional solid state lasers are relatively widespread in the industry for laser cutting or welding. Thus, the present article present a double objective: On the one hand, a laser percussion drilling process for high aspect ratio holes using a conventional laser will be evaluated. On the other hand, in the article is shown the development of a numerical model or estimating the internal geometry of the hole and the temperature field of the workpiece for the different operating conditions. Keywords: Laser, drilling, modelling.
