Reporte de triatominos (Hemiptera: Reduviidae: Triatominae), vectores de la enfermedad de Chagas, en la zona de Nuevo Zapotal, Cantón Ventanas, provincia de Los Ríos, Ecuador
This research was conducted in Nuevo Zapotal, Los Ríos province, Ecuador. Therewas no previous evidence of Chagas until 2002. In this year, an acute case of Chagasand the presence of Rhodnius ecuadoriensis in intradomicile were reported. Withthis information, active entomological searches were conducted and training of thepopulation of the localities was conducted to detect the presence of triatomines.A total of 110 houses, from 4 localities, were examined and an infestation rate of11.8% was determined. Three species were found (R. ecuadoriensis, Panstrongylusrufotuberculatus, Triatoma dimidiata). Nymphs of R. ecuadoriensis and T. dimidiatawere found inside of houses, these findings showed that the process of colonizationcould be involved. These results extend the range of distribution of these species andposed the importance of continuing with research to determine the epidemiologicalimportance of these findings in Trypanosoma cruzi transmission in the studied area.
