We study the confining properties of two-dimensional quantum-reflection traps, which are important for the transverse motion in atomic waveguides. For square geometry, the effect of nonseparability of the Schr\"odinger equation due to the corners is shown to be small. The survival probability due to quantum reflection is very similar for square and circular geometries.
