Abstract Volatile secondary metabolites from different parts (flowers, leaves, stems, and roots) of Colombian rue (Ruta graveolens) were obtained by combined steam distillation‐solvent extraction. The various oils were analyzed by means of GC using FID, NPD, or MSD. The chemical composition of the oils extracted from the aerial parts differed drastically from those extracted from the roots. 3‐Pyrrolidinol, 1,4‐dimethylpiperazine, and various 1,3‐benzodioxole derivatives were detected in the Colombian rue oil for the first time.
