:Engineering management programs have been offered in South American countries such as Colombia and Peru for more than 35 years. This article describes the evolution of this discipline in these two countries and highlights the differences between the engineering management concept in the U.S. and the concept developed in South America. These differences are related to the history, culture, and economy in the countries where these programs exist. In addition, some similarities are identified. Finally, this article describes the main challenges engineering management in these countries is facing today.
