This paper describes the location, design and construction of a direct lightning measurement station with a 30 meters guyed tower, in order to obtain lightning data in tropical zones. The aspects of selection of the station location, required structure, theoretical and experimental values of some of the tower parameters and performance when is struck by a lightning are also discussed.
