Abstract:We describe two new species of the melittophilous beetle Scotocryptus Girard, 1874 (Coleoptera, Leiodidae) associated with colonies of the stingless honey bee Melipona fuscipes Friese, 1900 (Hymenoptera, Apidae, Meliponini) in Colombia. The new species are described to make their names available in forthcoming papers on their biology. They are similar to S. meliponae Girard, 1874, differing primarily in characters of the male aedeagus. We also found morphological differences in the 7th and 8th tergites, 8th sternite, genitalia, and spermatheca of the female of the two new species. Female genitalic structures have not yet been studied in Scotocryptus, and they might provide additional characters in recognizing species, and in reconstructing the phylogeny of this interesting group.
