The study analyzes urban growth in Hermosillo (Sonora, Mexico) with respect to the residential water consumption variable. It describes the study zone, located on a strip of the Sonora desert, and analyzes the demographic growth of the city over a period of six decades, with respect to the increase of the urban surface area. The article also analyzes population density and its relation to urban water management policies, showing how the model for such management operates, and suggests a more sustainable water management model.
