The purpose of this text is to show how urban problems in Mexico have evolved in time and to analyze critically government policies to face them. I put forward some ideas in order to transform current public policies or to create new ones and I make some comments regarding some examples of what society and the academic realm are doing in order to put some order within urban space and to conform an integrated national urban land and housing policy. Under such a perspective I start with this question: Which is the housing problem in this country?
