This article is the departure point towards the implementation of a new methodological approach to the study of the Colombian labor market. As this approach is based on demand-side statistics, we present on detail and scope the different dimensions of the troublesome landscape to be found when approachinglabor demand-side analysis in Colombia. The design of regulations, labor policy, data availability and economic incentives of agents are all inquired into. Conceptual foundations of a new methodological, that had not been applied for the Latin American context, approach are presented. We emphasize its remarkable potential on sustaining policies against frictional and cyclical unemployment.
