This article meditates on the role played by universities in countries onthe north and south. It affirms that nowadays—period during which therelationship with technology has become closer—universities (mostly inthe south) have lost the possibility of designing their own researchagendas. The author advocates the creation of universities that, indeveloping contexts, play the role of change agents in the relationsbetween technology and society.
