Abstract:

Nowadays, the access to public housing services in a meaningful part of our society has been restricted. In addition, projects that may have the resources to be implemented in small communities, rural areas, or ethnic locations, are usually wasted. This situation occurs because these kinds of communities are victims of implementation methodologies that seek an appropriation through a misinterpreted participatory-communitarian management. The community of the Ticuna, from the indigenous reserve called Nazareth, located in the Amazon region, is leading a process of implementation of basic sanitation technologies. This implementation has changed popular schemes and achieved true ownership, taking into account the social representations that its members have towards technologies as well as regarding the most basic questions about the detection of basic needs within their culture and customs. From this experience and experts analysis from different fields of knowledge, the methodology that aims to involve all human, environmental, technical, social, economic, political and strategic variables -related to basic sanitation projects in native communities- takes place.
