This issue presents briefly the summary of a guide manual for correctly selecting the value of safety factors, proposed by some authors in order to use them in machine design, structural elements or mechanical systems, as a result of a research project in 2006. These criteria are organized in a software and which is expected to be helpful for engineering students or engineers without experience in the proper selection of a good safety factor.
