The germination process in Mucor javanicus Wehmer IFO 4570, was evaluated through electron microscopy and morphometrical analysis. The ultrastructural analysis was carried out utilizing scanning electron microscopy. Alterations in the spore diameter and volume, during germination, were evaluated by using the morphometrical system of scanning electron microscopy micrographs. The microorganism was grown in synthetic Mucor medium during 9 hours at 28°C. Samples were collected each 1 hour of culture. The results obtained observe several modifications in the spore structure during the germination process. The morphometrical analysis revealed a spore volume increase of eight times during the first four hours of germination.
