Hospital Colônia Adauto Botelho was opened in the state of Paraná - Brazil in 1954, when there was an ongo- ing public health policy based majorly on the governmental apparatus built since the 1930s. The Brazilian government adherence to the guidelines promoted by Pan American Health Organization favored the political settings that also instituted a new background for the psychiatric care. In this article we discuss the relations between international guidelines, national policies and regionalized care, configured in the history of implementation of hospital-colony in Paraná.
