This paper describes the development of a computer application for production planning and scheduling in a Colombian auto part company. Such an application integrates sales forecasts and firm orders, to calculate a Master Production Schedule which is validated with a detailed shop floor scheduling plan. A case study illustrates the functionality of the proposed application and compares the computer-calculated production plans with the current practices. The results show that the implementation of the application can improve service levels and customer satisfaction, given some prerequisites described in the paper are met.
