This study is aimed at understanding the current perceptions and assessment practices of seven physical education teachers at Colegio Miguel Cervantes Saavedra IED, located in the town of Usme in Bogotá, D.C. A case study methodology was used to examine through interviews, observations and document analysis how these teachers perceive and use assessment in their classes. The findings in the study provide information about the ideas, images and perceptions that these teachers have towards assessment. These teachers define assessment as an activity through which they can discover what their students are learning so they can make adjustments to the program, their methodology and the way they assess. The study found that the seven teachers tended to view assessment as being continuous, comprehensive, participatory, flexible and formative.
