On this paper, the study of the factors that affect significantly the academic performance in the subject Mathematics I, for students of engineering and technological programs in Pereira Technological University is presented. A logistic multiple regression model, using most relevant variables found due to the investigation and that affect student achievement in the subject Mathematics I is proposed. The prediction of a given student’s performance with an acceptable reliability is shown. As determinants of new student’s performance for the subject Mathematics I were found: The ICFES test score, the literal reading level and the level of abstract logical reasoning.
