El presente articulo es resultado de una investigacion historica de caracter descriptivocuyo objetivo es mostrar, desde la revision de las publicaciones cientifico medicas definales del siglo XIX y la primera mitad del siglo XX, la presencia del cancer comotematica academica y asistencial en la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad deCartagena y la ciudad de Cartagena en Colombia. Ademas identificar a los docentesque contribuyeron en la difusion del conocimiento en esas tematicas y a la sazon loscreadores de la escuela de anatomia patologica. SUMMARY The present article is result of an historical investigation of descriptive character whichfundamental aim is to show, since the review of the medical scientific publications at theend of the 20th century and the first half of the 20thcentury, the presence of the canceras a welfare and academic subject matter in the Facultad de Medicina of the Universidadde Cartagena in Colombia.
