This contribution gives up-to-date information on the use of wind generated electricity worldwide. It also describes the most immediate investment plans in the increase of wind as an alternative, non polluted energy source in Europe, as well as in the Latin America region. Based upon recent studies, carried out by the author, the paper assesses the wind energy potential for electricity generation in Colombia. At the end, some comments are made on developments and wind energy use in Colombia.
