The practice of forensic medicine and forensic sciences in Colombia is regulated by the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, a one hundred year old public entity attached to the Office of the General Attorney but with administrative and financial autonomy. Through the division of forensic services and scientific research, eight regional offices and one hundred twenty-three local units facilitate the practice of medicolegal autopsies and expert reports in forensic clinical medicine and forensic psychiatry with participation and integration of major forensic sciences. This institution is leader in education and research in forensic medicine and forensic sciences in Colombia and Latin America.
