Objective: Male breast cancer has a low prevalence as it is seldom detected and diagnosed. The objective of this study was to determine the educational profile and the knowledge of nursing professionals regarding early detection as well as the education on male breast cancer at institutions that have promotion and prevention programs in Medellin. Methodology: Descriptive study which made it possible to determine the social and educational profile and the knowledge of nursing staff pertaining to male breast cancer as well as the instructions offered regarding the self-test for this population. A convenience sample of 108 patients was used. A questionnaire was designed based on the objectives and variables. Results: Of the participants, 69.4% manifested that the institution where they worked had no specific promotion and prevention program for the early detection of male breast cancer; 98.1% stated they had no promotion and prevention program for male breast cancer; 66.7% did not know about its prevalence nor its lethality, and 73% did not know the survival of this pathology in Colombia. Conclusions: There is very little knowledge regarding male breast cancer and its risk factors in the individuals studied.
