The article presents parts of a research on the shaping and re-shaping of school social sciences in Colombia for the 1984-2010 period analyzing twelve schoolbooks.It identifies some similarities and differences among texts written by social science experts versus those created by publishing houses, highlighting their choices.From a school discipline approach, it can be seen that teaching content selection is a result of needs, interests and ideologies that certain groups use to get the power to legitimate particular contents to be taught.
